Old Mutual Malawi has donated relief items to flood survivors in Chikwawa District.
Following the landfall of Tropical Storm Ana on January 24, the company has been working with the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) and Chikwawa District Council in reaching out to the affected.
Trustee for Old Mutual Foundation Rex Kadzongwe said the relief items were given to people from three villages who were displaced and are now living at Kanseche Camp in the district.
“People need additional resources to tackle this situation that has affected their livelihood. We are calling upon other well wishers to emulate our gesture,” Kadzongwe said.
Chikwawa District Council Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Humphrey Magalasi said the district is by far the hardest-hit.
“The district had 92 camps where people were seeking temporary shelter and relief, and by May 1 this year, almost half of the camps were decommissioned and the people sent back to their villages to rebuild,” Magalasi said.
