Old Mutual Malawi Thursday donated K1.5 million to the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) towards the army’s annual sports festival.
Old Mutual Finance Manager Andrew Kaunda said the sponsorship is a representation of a well cemented partnership between the financial service provider and the MDF.
Kaunda said Old Mutual, as a corporate citizen, has partnered the MDF, contributing positively to activities that promote physical and psychological health among soldiers.
“We value the commitment and remarkable work that MDF does in ensuring that the nation is safe, enjoying peace and tranquility; while recognising the contribution to humanity the MDF offer through various initiatives,” Kaunda said.
Major Thokozani Moffat, who represented the chairman of the organising committee Brigadier General Chaika, said the donation will ease preparations towards the event.
“The donation is a shot in the arm for MDF as it will ease preparations towards the event,” Moffat said.
He said the sponsorship will increase prize packages which the best teams and best performing individuals will receive.
MDF organises sports festivals annually to keep soldiers physically and mentally fit while spotting talent for the national sporting activities.
“We commit to continue facilitating an interface between Old Mutual and our soldiers in order to improve the livelihood of the soldiers,” he said.
The donation is meant to cover costs guaranteeing a successful annual sports event for the Soldier at Mafco in Salima scheduled for May 24 to 27.
