The two bodies have agreed to call the awards Old Mutual Timba Family Plan.

The player who scoops the Man-of-the-Match accolade for every Super League match will walk away with a miniature while the Player-of-the-Week will pocket K50,000.

Some K200,000 has been earmarked for the Player-of-the-Month award winner.

Speaking during the partnership signing ceremony at Chilomoni Stadium in Blantyre Wednesday, Old Mutual Life Assurance Managing Director Roy Punungwe said they wanted the awards to motivate the players.

“We want to see great performances from players in all matches. The awards should be a motivating factor which will generate excitement among soccer fans who will be following the action. This is a win-win situation where Old Mutual, supporters and players will all be getting something,” Punungwe said.

Sulom President Tiya Somba-Banda commended the company for the partnership.

“Through this initiative, we will manage to create a high performance culture among our players. The game has been greatly affected by the Covid pandemic and most teams are unable to offer their players the financial rewards they deserve. So this will be a relief to the players,” Somba-Banda said.

The awards are set to start over the weekend with technical teams being deployed to each match venue for selection of outstanding players.

Supporters will also benefit from the partnership through predicting results of matches.

The predictions will be sent to 329 from TNM numbers, with weekly draws seeing lucky winners carting home K10,000 each
