The Office of the Ombudsman has entered into a partnership with National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust with an aim of reaching out to people in remote areas where offices of the Ombudsman are not present.
Ombudsman, Martha Chizuma, has said her office has partnered with Nice, which has a countrywide presence and equipped offices in all the 28 districts.
She says the partnership will enable the office of the Ombudsman to reach out to people in remote areas.
“The Office of the Ombudsman and Nice have visions which can hardly be defined differently. This relationship will enhance the capacity of Malawian citizens to hold duty-bearers accountable through enforcement of public awareness even in remote areas,” she said.
In his remarks, Executive Director of Nice Ollen Mwalubunju said Nice in collaboration with Ombudsman will enhance good governance.
He said following the partnership, poor people will now access justice easily.
“Considering that the office of the Ombudsman is only present on the four political regions and Nice has a countrywide presence, this will provide a critical opportunity for enhancing the outreach capacity of the Office of the Ombudsman,” he said.
