One soldier dies, 3 missing in Bua River

One Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldier died Monday while five others, including two civilians, are missing in Bua River in Kasungu after a bailey bridge they were working on collapsed into the water on Sunday evening.
The officers are from Engineers Battalion in Kasungu.
MDF spokesperson, Paul Chiphwanya, said one officer was found Monday but he died on his way to Kasungu District Hospital.
“The incident happened at around 5pm when our soldiers went there to assess a bailey bridge. We don’t know what happened but the bridge broke down. These people, four of which are our soldiers, fell into the water and got trapped,” he said.
Chiphwanya said they are looking for the remaining soldiers.
