Onesimus apologises for kicking fan

Although in one of his recent offerings called ‘Solomoni’ one of the country’s top-billed artists Onesimus discourages people against fighting, especially when it comes to manhandling women, the musician failed to hold his cool on Sunday during his Homecoming show at Lilongwe Golf Club when he kicked a ‘nagging’ fan.

A video that went viral on social media over the past two days captures Onesimus performing on stage and in the midst of the hype created by front row fans who were mobbing the artist, one is seen reaching out for his hand, attracting the artist’s attention who immediately turns and gives the chap a boot.

The irony is that this act was in stark contrast to the message preached in his ‘Solomoni’ song.

Part of the lyrics see Onesimus rebuking a person for turning violent, like some movie-macho characters such as Jean Claude Van Damme and ‘Rambo’, made famous by actor Sylvester Stallone:

Chi khristu mwachisiya kuti?

Mwasanduka Van Damme, mwina ngati Rambo

Having probably realised that the act of kicking a fan was a low point, Onesimus, through his manager Tonderai Banda, quickly sprang into action by issuing an apology.

“Onesimus would like to apologise to the general public for an unfortunate incident that happened at the concert when the music superstar had an encounter with a fan,” the statement reads.

The artist claims that, during the performance, the fan made several attempts to pull him off the stage and grabbed his shoes too often, hence the reaction, which he said he regrets.

‘The public may wish to know that after the show, Onesimus sought out the fan and offered him sincere apologies for the action. The fan also admitted to have triggered [the artist’s reaction],” Onesimus says in the statement.

Aside from the above mishap, it was a colourful and electrifying show, the first for Onesimus since his return from South Africa, and pulled some of the top urban music artists that included Gwamba, Fredokiss and Martse.
