Onesimus gets Best Artist Southern Africa Award

The trophy

Onesimus, better known as African Butter, has bagged the Best Artist of the Year-Southern Africa Award in the Zikomo Humanitarian Fashion and Music Awards 2022, which were held over the weekend in Zambia.

The ‘Panado’ and ‘Solomon’ maker did not travel to Zambia to collect the award due to circumstances beyond his control.

“This award means a lot not only to me but for Malawi. This award is Malawi,” he said.

Onesimus added: “It is a great feeling winning this award for Malawi; I am just excited and thankful to all the people who voted and to Malawi for giving me all the support. This will motivate me to continue giving out the best in my music game.”

The award comes as the artist also gears to release a project of an Extended Playlist (EP) and album next month.

“The EP is titled Love and Dreams and I am also looking at an album. I just want to make sure that the songs in the projects are available worldwide in all platforms online. I have done more songs but, for the EP, I am talking about eight songs while the album will have 15 songs,” Onesimus said.

Organisers have since congratulated Onesimus for bagging the award, saying he deserved it.

The musicians’ manager Tonderai Banda also hailed Onesimus, who is Amaryllis Hotel ambassador, for the award.

“This award means more for Malawi. Onesimus will keep pushing and more importantly we are thankful for the support because without it, he could not have been where he is today,” Tonderai, who is also Team Entertainers Director, said.

In another development, Muslim Artists Association has announced that it will hold its Islamic Arts Annual Awards on December 23 2022 at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.
