Onesimus speaks to BBC on music

ONESIMUS —I make music for everyone

South Africa-based musician Onesimus has spoken to BBC about his music and indicated that “we as Christians, we judge people too much”.

The artist, who used to be known as Armstrong but changed to Onesimus after moving from secular to gospel music having turned born again, was among others, asked how he makes music that works in the churches as well as the nightclubs?

“You go gently; you don’t preach in your lyrics, or condemn, you talk loosely about abundance and blessings,” he said.

Onesimus, famed for songs such as ‘Miracle Money’ and ‘Messenger’, added: “I make music for everyone. We Christians, we kind of judge people too much. We don’t know about their lives or what they are up to.”

The artist, said yesterday, he has a new song titled ‘Serious Matter’ and a new music video titled ‘Easy Baby’.

In the song ‘Easy Baby’, Onesimus addresses a good-time girl. The lyrics warn her that the things she wants will fade away, and asks her to treat her body as a temple.

The song ‘Easy Baby’, is a single off his album Messenger.

“I just want to thank all my fans in Malawi and in the world for the love and supporting my music. I am where I am because of them and again, I would like to thank God for the talent,” Onesimus said.

The artist, who last year dropped a track titled ‘Foyu’ in which she featured Nigerian artist Tekno, said Africa has the love of God.

“Therefore, being a gospel artist, I am using the African platform to preach peace, unity, togetherness and oneness,” he said.

He said that ‘Foyu’ was a track that praises God in an African culture with lyrics talking about his personal life and experiences where God has taken him from nothing to something.

In June last year the artist spiced up the launch of Wendy Harawa’s album Mundisunge Ndinu.

Onesimus, who is signed to Major One Records spearheaded by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, said he has so many projects he was working
