Musicians Onesimus and Tuno will tonight share the stage, headlining the Summer Fashion show to be held at Springs Park in Mzuzu.
The fashion show, which is the first of its kind, has been organised to showcase fashion designs, a move that will place up-and-coming fashion designers on the spotlight.
Addressing journalists in Mzuzu recently, the event’s coordinator, Donata Mpochera, said the fashion show has attracted international fashion designers from Tanzania and Zimbabwe, which will in turn promote the culture of participating countries.
Mpochera disclosed that 10 percent of the show’s proceeds will be donated to charity.
“Preparations are at an advanced stage and we are optimistic that it will be a success and the aim of the show is to promote fashion in the country,” she said.
On his part, Chris Ngalu, a fashion designer, expressed optimism that the show will help in breaking stereotypes surrounding the fashion industry.
Ngalu added that the fashion show will also help in exposing up-and-coming Malawian fashion designers on the international scene.
“Many people do not fancy the African print wear because they associate it with certain events such as engagements and we want to use this show to sensitise people that the African print can be worn anywhere and, in addition to that, the interaction will help expose Malawian fashion designers to network with international fashion designers,” he said.
Before the launch of the Summer Fashion Show, Mzuzu City used to host Mzuzu Fashion Week, which has been silent for the past three years.
