Open Perspective: Those unpatriotic individuals masquerading as Flames

Concerns raised by Flames’ official sponsor, Carlsberg Malawi Limited, on the lacklustre performance of the team need to be considered seriously.

Carlsberg officials did not mince words but asked the Flames to win as they battle against Zimbabwe’s Warriors tomorrow in Harare.

It is annoying that despite pumping in millions of kwachas, the Flames, which is part of the DNA to some of us, have not shown any progress.

Others have blamed government for its failure to provide enough funding for preparations of the team prior to the games, but I strongly feel that the players should also squarely shoulder the blame for lacking commitment.

Flames players do not give 100 percent effort in a game. They are so rigid and talentless and make what is supposed to be a beautiful game boring.

It is painful to see the amount of money that is pumped into the Flames and how football authorities spend sleepless nights sourcing these funds and yet the team has failed to deliver in continental and regional tournaments. These are the tournaments that separate men from boys.

It is a bunch of remorseless players who do not even feel the pain when the team losses. When they are clobbered they prefer clubbing than mourning.

It is a fact that the Flames have become a disgrace to the sport especially in an era where football has been dominated by superstars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and the rest who are a marvel to watch.

Malawi league is pregnant with indisciplined players who cannot respect the rules of the game, and they are involved in numerous off-the pitch bad habits. This is how some Malawian players can turn this beautiful game into an ugly lot which cannot even be watched by a frog on its boring day.

I have been around for long enough and I have learnt one thing; never trust the Flames especially when they are heading for tournaments like Cosafa, which is usually spiced by emotions and high expectations from fans.

All what we expect from such tournaments are sad tales told by unpatriotic citizens who can’t die a little for their country.

It is not fair for the media to always blame coaches and officials for the team’s failure, this remorseless bunch of unpatriotic individuals masquerading as the Flames should also get the flack. To them the word shame lost its meaning.

The so-called Flames have been letting us down big-time despite wasting billions of tax payers on them.
