Operation Smile donates Covid-19 PPEs to QECH


Operation Smile Malawi on Wednesday donated assorted Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (Qech) to help in the fight against coronavirus.

The items which are worth about K20 million include face masks, hand sanitisers, gloves and awareness campaign materials.

Speaking after receiving the equipment, Qech Chief Nursing Officer, Feggie Bodole, commended Operation Smile Malawi for the support, saying it has come at the right time and will also benefit health workers.


“Health workers are the ones on the forefront fighting and any help in this regard is important and worth appreciating.

“As for those of us fighting and helping people, we will not get enough of help because it is an everyday fight. Challenges are there but government is doing all it can to help each and every person to defeat this pandemic,” she said.

Operation Smile Malawi Programmes Manager, Ibrahim Ntalika, said was delighted to be part of the help in the fight against the pandemic.


“We thought it wise to donate these items to help in the fight against the pandemic. The use of masks and hand sanitiser has become mandatory and as such, we thought it would be wise for us to render the help needed at this particular time, he said.

Some of the items are to be used at the Mercy James Children’s Ward within the hospital.
