Orphaned girl appeals for tuition support

A rural Thyolo-based secondary school girl, Agnes Nansongole, is appealing for tuition support from well wishers as she has dropped out of school this term due to lack of fees.

In an interview at his grandmother’s residence in Thyolo on Wednesday, the 16 year old girl said since her mum’s death last year life has not been rosy for her.

She said she has been struggling for fees since she enrolled at Ecom Private Secondary School located at Mtambanyama in the district.

“My mum used to run small scale businesses and she could support us but since her death we are struggling,” said Nansongole.

She said she would be grateful for any support towards her education.

“Our father abandoned us, me and my brother, when we were very young and we have been raised by our mum and grandmother. Since mum died, it’s my grandmother who has been trying to fend for me and my brother but now things are hard for her to find money for our education,” she said.

Her tuition fee at her school is K11,000 a term.

“I would love to complete my education and be independent one day. I therefore appeal to organisations and others to help me complete my education,” said the form two girl.

Her brother Chisomo also dropped out in form one due to the same tuition problem.

She lives in Njobvu village TA Khwethemule in Thyolo.
