Oscar of African Creativity brings African talent to Egypt

The Oscar of African Creativity has opened in Egypt, where the country is being represented by artist Veronica Right, whose real name is Vera Mlia Sheriff.
Veronica, who left the country on Sunday for the event, said Wednesday she was excited to represent Malawi at the gathering.
“I am happy to represent Malawi and hope to show more of what the Warm Heart of Africa is made of as far as creativity is concerned. Yesterday (Tuesday) was a showcase of short films but Malawi did not have any representative,” she said.
Veronica, who recently also participated in the Tikonzekere Art contest and made it to the semi-finals, said the Oscar of African Creativity was opened by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhy.
“The event is organised by the ministry in cooperation with the African Union Commission and will run until September 10 2019,” the artist said.
Veronica was endorsed by the National Youth Council to participate in the event for her artwork titled ‘Beauty and the Seven’.
Before her departure, Veronica said she had gone into partnership with her illustrations and Animation studio – Studio4Humanity to set up a hub for the arts at National Youth Council.
Veronica said Malawi need to do more to support the creative industry which has potential to propel in economic growth.
“There were several performances during the opening and that showed the best of talent from the African continent. The gathering has highlighted the richness of talent in Africa and the importance of cultural and artistic activities. Through this platform, we will also network,” she said.
