Veteran boxers Wilson Masamba and Osgood Kayuni will renew their rivalry when they square up for the fourth time in an eight-round non-title contest dubbed ‘farewell fight’.

The junior lightweight contest is slated for Robin’s Park in Blantyre on Mother’s Day, October 17.

Mulanje Last Boxing Promotions Managing Director Mike Chitenje announced that the winner will pocket K500,000 with the loser receiving K400,000.

“As a stable, we make every effort to please our boxers. We pay them highly because we know what it takes to be in the ring,” Chitenje said.

He said the fight follows Masamba’s request to avenge the three defeats he suffered to Kayuni in his career.

“Masamba is a well-known boxer. He has fought and defeated many boxers in Malawi and other countries. Kayuni is the only boxer who stopped Masamba. This is why he remains determined to avenge for the loss. Kayuni’s name haunts his family and he wants to do something about it,” Chitenje said.

Masamba said he wanted to end his career on a high note.

“I have a score to settle with Kayuni. This fight gives me a chance to put things into the right perspective. I am ready for him,” he said.

Kayuni could not be reached for a comment.

Both boxers are expected to sign a contract next week as matchmaker Stephen Mawenzi Msiska is drafting it.

Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) President Lonzoe ‘Defector’ Zimba said they will sanction the fight.

“We do not have any problems with Mulanje Last Boxing Promotions. They always give us purse money for the boxers in advance,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chitenje said he is arranging to face Isaac ‘Jomo’ Osman in a supporting fight.

“I want to teach him some boxing tricks. I know he can’t last eight or six rounds but at least three or four. That is what he can manage,” he said.

Recently, MPBCB said it was possible to sanction a fight between Chitenje and Osman under exhibitional terms.
