Malawi Defence Force boxers, Osgood ‘The Punisher’ Kayuni and Wilson ‘Hard Hitter’ Masamba, have fueled their rivalry by trading barbs ahead of their meeting today.
The eight-round lightweight non-title contest is scheduled for Robins Park in Blantyre, where K400,000 is at stake for the winner and K350,000 for the loser. Kayuni defeated Masamba in previous two meetings.
It is not surprising that Masamba is driven by revenge going into today’s combat.
“He is not one of the best boxers in the country. This is his payback time. I will definitely make him kiss the canvas,” said the 31-year-old boxer, who 35 fights of six defeats, two draws and 27 wins, including 12 knock-outs.
However, Kayuni, 29, branded Masamba as a gold digger.
He is someone I turn into a punching bag. I know he is broke. He just wants to fundraise since the money for the loser is quite huge as well,” said Kayuni, who has lost six fights, drawn thrice and won 23.
Meanwhile, retired boxers Kashitigu Ndoro, 75, and ‘Tough’ Ben Chitenje, 72 will meet in a supporting cast for the main bill, which Mulanje Last Boxing Promotions are hosting with support from Chombe Foods Limited.
