OSSED Malawi for humps on Dowa road
A local non-governmental organisation in Dowa district, OSSED Malawi, has asked the National Roads Authority (NRA) to construct a rumble surface and hump at Mbalame Primary School to control over speeding vehicles.
The primary school is located along the Lumbadzi-Dowa-Chezi Road.
The road, which is under construction, is frequently used by motorists driving to and from Dowa Boma.
OSSED Malawi programme manager, Thotho Chimbiya, said the place is prone to accidents as learners from both primary and secondary schools cross the road to fetch water at a nearby borehole.
OSSED Malawi, which is implementing Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash) programmes in the district, said the area needs rumble surfaces or humps.
The programme manager also lamented the situation at Aimala Ndiwo Primary School, situated along the M1 Lilongwe-Kasungu Road.
The Director of Planning and Development (DPD) for Dowa District Council, Emmanuel Bulukutu, asked the National Road Safety Council of Malawi to teach the school going children road safety tips.
Government is constructing the Lumbadzi- Dowa-Chezi Road as part of a government initiative launched in 2009.
