Our compensation claim stands – Wanderers GS

BY ISAAC SALIMA:

Be Forward Wanderers have said their compensation claim from Football Association of Malawi (Fam) over striker Ishmael Thindwa’s injury still stands despite the player’s return to training.

Thindwa who, sustained a knee injury while on national team duty last April, returned to training last week after almost a year’s absence.

Following the injury, Wanderers surrendered Thindwa to Fam in reaction to the association’s failure to have the player treated outside the country.

The Nomads also asked the association for a refund of K3.6 million that the team had been paying the player when he was sidelined by the injury.

But Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, said the team still wants the money from Fam, despite that the player has returned to training.

“Of course, our priority was to have the player back. But despite that, we still want our money from Fam because we have been paying Thindwa monthly salaries since his injury last year,” Butao said.

Butao also said Fam should explain its insurance policy for national team players as clubs should not be pushing for something that is already there.

Thindwa who, last month sought spiritual healing from a renowned Nigerian prophet TB Joshua, said he was fully fit but still wants Fam to compensate him for the injury.

“However, I have pushed in vain for assistance from Fam and I am only hoping that they will compensate me fully for the injury,” Thindwa said.

Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, refused to comment on the issue.
