Outgoing Chinese envoy pledges closer ties

The outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Shi Ting Wang has pledged to promote Malawi and bring the two countries closer.

In his farewell speech on Wednesday night, Shi Ting, said he will continue paying attention to Malawi to bring Chinese and Malawians closer to each other.

Shi Ting arrived in Malawi on March 30 2016 and, according to him, he is proud to have lived up to his responsibility, as a representative of Chinese President Xi Jinping

“This is my first time to work as an Ambassador, so Malawi is the lucky land for me. I am greatly honoured to have come to Malawi in my first post as the Ambassador. This country has the best climate, most industrious people, and most peaceful environment.

“When working in Malawi, I have felt deeply the charm of the Warm Heart of Africa, and I have felt the hospitality and kindness of Malawian people. I shall leave Malawi with these hospitality and kindness, which will become my best memory,” he said.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Manpower Development Francis Kasaila, who represented President Peter Mutharika at the farewell dinner, said Malawi will always remember Shi Ting as a person who produced his best for the sake of strong bilateral ties and socio-economic development of Malawians and Chinese people.

In two years, Shi Ting has witnessed the handing over of several Chinese funded projects including the opening of Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, agricultural technology demonstration centre in Salima, handing over of 100 vehicles to Malawi Police Service and various donations to help in disaster management and health-related problems.

He announced that China will provide assistance in building satellite television receiving system in 500 villages in Malawi, a solar powered system which will ensure that people in remote areas still enjoy clear TV programmes.
