Over 130 compete in Botsalt

Over 130 developmental sides continue to compete in the inaugural K8 million Botsalt Under-20 Southern Region Netball League.
The league’s General Secretary, Charity Gondwe, said they were hoping to conclude the competition in October.
“The response has been overwhelming. We have 13 districts after splitting Blantyre into urban and rural. Each district registered 10 teams and the winners will qualify for the finals where the champions will be crowned,” Gondwe said.
She said the league was serving its purpose of unearthing raw talent.
“Our national team has several players who are ageing and we need youngsters to take over. There is need to invest in developmental structures if we are to remain competitive in the game,” Gondwe said.
Teams competing in the league are from Blantyre, Mulanje, Thyolo, Mwanza, Neno, Chikwawa, Nsanje, Zomba, Machinga, Mangochi, Phalombe and Chiradzulu districts.
Some K500,000 has been set aside for the champions while runners-up and the third-placed team would get K300,000 and K200,000 respectively.
