Red Lions Coach Alick Chirwa was left dumbfounded when Karonga United completed a TNM Super League double over the Zomba-based soldiers at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe Township on Saturday.

Khumbo Banda scored into his own net to hand Karonga full points. Interestingly, Karonga also won the first-round encounter at home, courtesy of an own goal.

Chirwa said they were unfortunate to lose.

“It is painful because that goal came out of nothing. They did not create it. Sadly, we conceded an own goal just like what happened in the first round,” he said.

Despite losing, Chirwa was confident that his side would finish among top eight sides this season to qualify for Top 8 Cup.

“We will polish up the team and strengthen where we are weak to achieve our mission,” he said.
