Pac meets Peter Mutharika today

Quasi-religious group Public Affairs Committee (Pac) will today have an audience with former president Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM), for the first time since he left office after losing the June 20 2020 court-ordered presidential election.

Executive Assistant to the former president, Bright Molande, confirmed the development in a telephone interview Thursday.

He, however, said the agenda was not yet known to him.

“The agenda is with Pac but His Excellency is, indeed, granting them an audience, like he has always done whenever they asked for one from the time he was a sitting head of State,” Molande said.

Speaking separately, Pac Executive Director Robert Phiri confirmed that they had a scheduled meeting with APM at which they would like to discuss matters of national importance.

“I can confirm that the Pac Executive Committee will meet APM Saturday, May 20 2022, to discuss issues of national importance. A Pac caucus will be held in Mangochi [in the] morning hours Saturday to look at the draft agenda,” he said.

Phiri said the meeting, which is scheduled to start at 2pm, will be held in Mangochi at Mutharika’s retirement home.

The Pac delegation, according to Phiri, comprises 12 members, some of whom were part of the mediation team which met with Mutharika on November 9 2019 when they discussed the 2019 presidential election results’ stalemate.
