PAC says enough is enough, amid tight security

Amid heavy police presence at Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre, Public Affairs Committee (PAC)  has commenced a two-day 5 + 1 all inclusive stakeholder conference.

PAC Chairperson Rev Dr Felix Chingota expressed frustration on lack of progress on the resolutions made during PAC indaba in 2016 saying the country remains with gaps in some key areas of governance.

He said despite obstacles PAC had faced in its quest to seek accountability, the body will not relent to provide a platform for Malawians to express themselves.

“Enough is enough…We will not fold our hands because of castigations or mudslinging from other quarters or within ourselves.

“We are aware in modern times, children of darkness have become smarter than children of the light. However truth and justice will prevail. PAC shall remain PAC,” he said.

Chingota said it was unfortunate that the  conference had been embroiled in political innuendos when it was not for any selfish gains.

“This is not a PAC conference but space provided for Malawians to express themselves. It is not a back-door event where delegates are being influenced for a particular agenda.

“Malawi belongs to all of us and Malawians should therefore be free to determine the course of events within the legal frameworks,”.

In his address Professor Wiseman Chijere Chirwa of Chancellor College, making reference to the recent Afrobarometer survey, said  Malawians were clearly frustrated and have lost trust in their government.

“Only one third of Malawians say they trust the President, this is not good at all”

“Teachers are on strike, Universities are closed, this says a lot about how we are managing our public resources”.

The conference is being held under the theme; The state of governance and public trust; reclaiming our destiny, the conference is expected to deliberate on lasting solutions to governance crisis in the country.
