Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Aisha Adams Tuesday announced that President Lazarus Chakwera will not appear before the august House Wednesday.

Chakwera was set to attend parliamentary proceedings today but Parliament has its own unfinished business.

Adams communicated to members of Parliament (MP) that, instead, Chakwera would appear in Parliament on Wednesday next week.

Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda attributed the change to continued activities related to the Committee of Supply stage.

“We are still within the Committee of Supply until tomorrow [Wednesday]. Our Standing Orders also say the President is supposed to come only on a Wednesday; so, in this case, it will be next Wednesday,” he said.

Chakwera’s Press Secretary Brian Banda also said the President would appear before the House upon invitation.

This will be Chakwera’s second appearance in Parliament after taking over the country’s leadership mantle in June Last year.

During the Committee of Supply Tuesday, Parliament approved funds for 12 ministries, departments and government agencies but deferred the allocation under Ministry of Local Government.

Thyolo Central legislator Ben Phiri and Nkhata Bay Central MP Symon Vuwa Kaunda were among lawmakers that pressed Finance Minister Felix Mlusu to indicate whether an increment of K1.7 billion under the ministry would cater for construction of stadia, houses for traditional leaders and their Honoraria.

The House is expected to continue transacting more business on Wednesday.
