The International Relations Committee of Parliament says it will meet Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials over alleged fraud at the country’s mission in Kenya during the budget meeting of Parliament next month.
The committee’s Chairperson, Alex Major, said the committee will take advantage of Parliament when almost all the MPs in the committee will be in Lilongwe to summon the officials to explain the alleged abuse.
“We are ready. We will meet officials from the ministry [of foreign affairs] on 11th and 12th of May, that is the first week of the budget meeting,” he said.
This follows failure by another House committee, Public Accounts Committee, to travel to Nairobi and probe alleged fraud at the High Commission.
“There is no confusion here. We are all doing the same work but in different parts. They (Pac) are looking at the actual money how it was used and all that but we are looking at the governance side of it,” he said.
