Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Patricia Kaliati has hailed the Joyce Banda Foundation in Zomba for providing care to more than 70,000 children through its Early Child Development Centres (ECDs) and other child focused interventions.

She said this at Nsondole School ground in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kuntumanji in the district.

The minister toured and appreciated some of the foundation’s interventions, which were displayed on pavilions mounted on the day.

“What I have seen here today is very impressive and l wish if you could reach other parts of Malawi with similar interventions so that children should access child care at early stages of life,” Kaliati said.

The foundation has more than 40 ECDs spread across the country where children below the age of five are accessing child care and support, including early childhood education.

Civil Society Organisations Network chairperson in the district, Sammy Aaron urged the foundation to extend its operations to all parts of the district where vulnerable children are failing to access early child development facilities and services.

The Foundation was established in 1997 by the former state president Joyce Banda to advance women economic empowerment as well as offering child care and support to vulnerable children.
