Nyasa Big Bullets midfielder Patrick Mwaungulu was on Saturday named the team’s player of the month of June.

The 20-year-old beat other nominees; Chimwemwe Idana and Babatunde Adepoju to receive K100,000 from insurance brokers Hubertus Clausius Malawi Limited that partnered the People’s Team to be sponsoring the awards.

Bullets supporters vote via SMS to choose a player they think has done well for the particular month.

Hubertus Clausius Finance Director Malinda Chinyama said this was one way of motivating the players and also recognising the role supporters play in the game of football.

“We would like to bring in competition among players so that as they work hard to win the award, the team performance should also improve,” Chinyama said.

He said supporters have also been benefitting from the partnership as they have been winning tickets for league games and also t-shirts.

Mwaungulu expressed gratitude to fans for choosing him for the award.

The enterprising attacker had been instrumental for the team’s success since he was promoted from Bullets Reserve.

Mwaungulu, who is fondly called ‘CR-7’ by his admirers, had an impressive month when he contributed to Bullets’ great performance after forming a fierce combination with Lanjesi Nkhoma, Adepoju, Idana and Misheck Selemani.

Idana was named Bullets’ player of the month of May.
