Musician Paul Subili on Sunday celebrated his 45th birthday at Liwonde Sun Hotel, where he recognised the efforts of veteran promoter Jai Banda, popularly known as Mr Entertainer, for tirelessly supporting the creative industry in the country.

Subili, who is also a traditional leader, said, having turned 45, he decided to surprise Mr Entertainer with a trophy inscribed with the name Professor.

“Jai Banda has been there for the creative sector. He has given nicknames to lots of artists such as Soldier Lucius Banda, late Bright Livewire Nkhata and Anthony Mr Cool Makondetsa and, so, I thought of honouring him with a trophy and nickname him Professor Jai Banda,” Subili, who is known as Njobvu yaku Balaka, said.

The mega show for the birthday party, organised in partnership with Liwonde Sun Hotel, attracted several artists including Billy Kaunda, Mlaka Maliro and Alleluya Band, which also celebrated its 45th anniversary.

The Balaka-based group is expected to travel to Italy and Portugal in June this year where they will hold over 60 shows.

Mr Entertainer, who is a lawyer by profession, said he is passionate about music and art in general and that he was happy with the contributions he has made to the industry.

He thanked Subili for the trophy, which he indicated came as a surprise.

“It is always an honour when people celebrate you when you are still alive. These artists need support and I am happy to have motivated many,” Mr Entertainer, who left Entertainers Promotions in the hands of his son Tonderai, said.
