With the number of people dying with Covid-19 passing 120, the Malawi Network of People Living with HIV and Aids (Manet+) has said some people living with HIV are among people who have died from the contagion.
Manet+ Executive Director Lawrence Khonyongwa has said considering that people living with HIV are also losing their lives due to Covid-19, they must ensure that they follow all set precautionary measures to ensure they remain safe.
“We are asking people living with HIV to take into consideration and adhere to all the rules and regulations set up to curb Covid-19 because HIV is one of the underlying factors which means that people living with HIV are vulnerable to the infection and they can die of Covid-19,” Khonyongwa said.
He added: “We know some of our members that have died from the disease and we know that it is because they had Aids. It is an underlying condition that meant they were vulnerable.”
By Saturday, Malawi had recorded 120 total deaths with 1,914 that had recovered out of 4,186 total confirmed cases.
Data released by the Public Health Institute of Malawi shows that locally transmitted cases are three times more than imported cases.
