People scramble for items on Black Friday

Scores of people Thursday midnight scrambled for different items at Game Stores in Blantyre as part of Black Friday which has now become a tradition in the country.
Game Stores announced that they were going to open at midnight and by this time there were scores of people with the car park filled up as if it was in the afternoon.
Some of the items that people bought on the night included television screens, cooler boxes, toilet tissues, electric irons, refrigerators, pillows and plastic chairs.
“I just had to come and buy some items because their prices have been reduced. You can’t get some of these brand new items at some of these prices,” Chinthemwa Mwaungulu, a resident of Kanjedza Township said.
Mwaungulu said he was among the first people to enter the store at midnight
Game store also did the same in Lilongwe.
Black Friday is an informal name for the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.
The day after Thanksgiving has been regarded as the beginning of America’s Christmas shopping season since 1952, although the term Black Friday did not become widely used until more recent decades.
During Black Friday, many stores offer highly promoted sales and open very early, such as at midnight, or may even start their sales at some time on Thanksgiving.
