Peoples’ Party (PP) Eastern Region organising secretary Mathews Banda has resigned from the party, citing loss of direction of the party as reason for his stepping down.
In a letter addressed to the party president Joyce Banda, Banda informs the party that he has resigned both as a member of the party and as the party’s Eastern Region organising secretary.
Banda was among people who helped introduce the party in the Eastern Region during its initial stages when Joyce Banda was still vice president to the late Bingu wa Mutharika.
In an interview yesterday, Banda refused to mention his next move, saying he would like to pursue other things.
“I cannot say much on the reasons for my resignation. But I am just wishing the party all the best as it is trying to gain momentum ahead of any future elections,” he said.
PP’s Publicity Secretary Ackson Kalaile Banda refused to comment more on the matter, saying his party was yet to be furnished with the resignation letter from Banda.
However, Kalaile said every person, including Banda, has a constitutional right to associate with any grouping in the country.
During last year’s presidential elections, Peoples Party did not feature a presidential candidate, instead, the party supported the candidature of Malawi Congress Party’s Lazarus Chakwera.
