Bidvest Wits and Flames attacker Frank Gabadihno Mhango has said his ultimate goal is to help his South African club win trophies instead of personal glory.
The former Nyasa Big Bullets striker flew from South Africa to grace the launch match of Airtel Top 8 Cup between his former club and Silver Strikers at Bingu National Stadium on Saturday.
Mhango has been reduced to a bench-warmer at Wits for the past three games in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) despite that he is in the race for the Golden Boot Award with nine goals.
But when asked about his chances of winning the award, the former Bloemfontein Celtic forward said he was focusing on the team achievements.
“For me in SA [South Africa], the game is improving and the level is too high than in Malawi. When I was watching the [local] game, it was too slow. Actually, I am not chasing the Golden Boot but I want to win a trophy,” said Mhango, who watched Bullets missing scoring opportunities as they lost the first leg 0-1 to Silver.
Mhango has been nominated for South Africa’s Soccer Laduma Player of the Season Award alongside Lebogang Manyama (Cape Town City), Siphiwe Tshabala (Kaizer Chiefs), Percy Tau, Khama Billiati (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Tendai Ndoro (Orlando Pirates).
With 28 games played in the PSL, Wits lead the log table with 57 points, followed by Sundowns on 55 points from the same number of games.
