Malawi National Football Team attacker Peter Banda continues to win the hearts of Simba SC supporters after opening his account in the Caf Champions League.
Banda scored the third goal as the Tanzanian side defeated Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast 3-1 to start the competition strongly.
The Flames attacker said he was determined to keep doing better for his new team.
“It feels great to score in the Caf Champions League. It is sweeter when your team wins the match. I am happy because this gives me a lot of confidence. I thank the supporters for their massive support,” he said.
Banda’s goal has excited his former club Bullets.
The team’s administration officer Albert Chigoga said Banda’s performance would help market other local footballers to international scouts.
“The boy would open doors for other players to be spotted. His good performance at Simba is also good for his confidence. We are delighted to see the boy doing very well in Tanzania,” Chigoga said.
During the game, Pape Ousmane Sakho put Simba in the lead in the 12th minute but Stephane Aziz equalised for Mimosa in the 60th minute.
Shomari Kapombe restored Simba’s lead when he converted a penalty in the 79th minute.
Banda cushioned the lead with a timely connection in the 81st minute.
Banda joined Simba from Sheriff Tiraspol. He left Bullets on loan to join Sheriff before signing for Simba.
