Malawi Under-20 National Football Team attacking midfielder, Peter Banda, will only be available for Super League teams in 2020, his grandfather has said.

Giants such as Nyasa Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers and Silver

Strikers scrambled for Banda during the transfer window, but all of them hit a snag.

Griffin Saenda Senior has since stressed that his grandson will stay put at the Southern Region Under-20 League side, Griffin Young Stars, for the next three years.

Saenda also acts as the manager for the son to former Bullets star, the late Chikondi Banda.

“The problem in Malawi is that we do not have football academies. The boy is in Form Three. He is not yet 18. Big teams always want instant results, and once a player is off form, they get castigated by fans, hence young players lose confidence and focus,” the Malawi Netball Queens’ mentor said.

“I even told Orlando Pirates [of South Africa] to come to Malawi and discuss on how best they were to take care of him [Banda], but they never did. They just wanted us to send the kid to South Africa. However, I have no doubt that after three years, the boy will be available for big teams.”

However, Banda’s under-20 team mates such as Frank Chizuze Jnr, Hadji Wali, Mike Mkwate, Precious Sambani and Francisco Madinga have joined Super League teams.

Chizuze Jnr and Wali are with Silver Strikers, Mkwate joined Bullets whereas Sambani and Madinga play for Wanderers.

Banda was part of the under-17 national team that won bronze at the 2016 Cosafa Youth Championship held in Mauritius.
