Musician Peter Mawanga returns to the stage on Saturday to headline the Nkhotakota Music Festival.
It has been some time since the singer and guitarist performed in the country.
“I am excited to make a comeback. There is a lot of excitement especially from band members that have joined Amaravi Movement. These guys will be making their debut at Nkhotakota Music Festival,” Mawanga said.
The past years have seen Mawanga concentrating more on performances outside the country and last year had concerts in United States of America.
“The last time I performed in the country was in 2014 and it is good to be back home doing what I love most. It also appears that the news that I am featuring at Nkhotakota Music Festival has ignited some interest across the borders. I am getting calls from Zimbabwe and Zambia for concerts in the coming months,” the ‘Zanga Zozama’ star said.Advertisement
The one-day festival would take place at Nkhotakota Youth Organisation.
Nkhotakota Music Festival Manager, Friday Ur, said all was ready for the festival and that they were looking forward to another great event this year with Mawanga as the headliner.
“This is the seventh time for the festival and the fifth year and so we are striving to bring out the best,” Friday said.
Apart from Mawanga, some of the artists expected to perform at this year’s festival include Agorosso, Chaka Band, Zathu Band, traditional dances and a selection of Nkhotakota Youth Organisation’s own acts.
The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Our Identity’ with a focus on forms of cultural expressions that exist in the country today.
