Newly appointed Silver Strikers Coach Peter Mgangira has expressed delight after the club settled for him following the departure of Peter Mponda.
The Central Bankers have offered Mgangira a two-year deal after replacing Mponda, who surprisingly resigned on Friday after guiding Silver to their first TNM Super League championship in 11 years.
However, Mgangira has left members of the current backroom staff guessing after he has been given the freedom to name people of his choice.
“Firstly I am excited that the club has opted for me to take charge. They have looked within and I promise that I will work hard not to disappoint them.
“It is not obvious that I will maintain the current backroom staff because I have been given the freedom to name mine. I will take my time and disclose the names [at an appropriate time],” he said.
Mgangira, who played for the Flames and both capital city giants Silver and Civil Service United, welcomed the challenge wholeheartedly, saying he has learned a lot deputising top coaches.
“I think I am now mature to lead the side. I have worked hard at this club. I gave my all to every coach who worked here [Silver] and I did not sabotage anyone,” he said.
Mgangira holds a Caf B Coaching Licence.

Silver Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patrick Chimimba said Mgangira emerged as an ideal candidate to continue with their revival.
“The club feels that Mr. Mgangira is suitable for the position because of his qualifications and experience he has amassed over the years.
“Having worked as assistant coach to Daniel Kabwe, Pieter de Jong and Peter Mponda, the club believes that he is ready to take the Silver Strikers football project forward,” Chimimba said.
The Silver CEO confirmed that Mgangira had been given a freehand to pick his backroom team.
“The coach has been given the freedom to choose his backroom staff,” he said.
Both Chimimba and Mgangira were coy on targets.
