Silver Strikers want to beef up their coaching panel ahead of next season, with former star Peter Mgangira the favourite for a return to the club as an assistant Coach.
Sources confirmed that at its recent meeting in Lilongwe, Silver Executive Committee proposed the hiring of Mgangira to work alongside another assistant Coach Lovemore Fazili.
The recent meeting also agreed that Young Chimodzi Senior should double as Technical Director and Head Coach next season.
Silver acting General Secretary, Thabo Nyirenda, on Wednesday confirmed that discussions were at an advanced stage to rope in their former player.
“It is likely that the coaching panel will be strengthened before the season starts. Very soon we will make an announcement on the issue because we are almost through with the discussions with the person,” Nyirenda said.
Mgangira on Wednesday was reluctant to comment on the matter.
“I do not have details on the issue. I will be free to comment on it once they approach me,” said Mgangira who once worked as Silver’s assistant coach to Stan Chirwa before the pair was sacked in 2015 due to the team’s poor form.
The Central Bankers have been active on the players’ transfer market, having signed Lazarus Nyemera from Mzuni FC, Mphatso Philimon from Blue Eagles and Jack Chiona (Dwangwa United).
The Airtel Top 8 Cup champions are also interested in signing Griffin Young Stars and Malawi under-20 national football team forward Peter Banda.
