Peter Mponda pleased with Big Bullets’ character
Nyasa Big Bullets Assistant Coach Peter Mponda has hailed the attitude of his players in the on-going Cecafa Kagame Cup in Tanzania.
Mponda was speaking after Bullets booked a semifinal date against Azam FC slated for Wednesday following a 2-0 victory over Atlabara of South Sudan.
The former Flames captain said it felt good to reach the Cecafa Cup semifinals.
“I believe these guys were fired up and they knew the task at hand. The job is not yet done as we still have to play Azam. Scoring early also helped us to play our normal football,” said Mponda, who is in-charge of the team following the absence of Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa as he is recovering from Covid.
Bullets reached the semifinals having finished as Group A runner-up with five points, two points behind group winners’ Express FC from Uganda, who defeated Young African Sports (Yanga) 3-1 in another match at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Former Flames and Mighty Wanderers midfielder Sherry Msuku said Bullets have performed beyond many people’s expectations.
“They should just avoid conceding early but I believe they can win the competition. It is good for them as they are preparing for Caf Champions League,” Msuku said.
Bullets started the competition with a 1-1 draw against Yanga before a similar result against Express in the second match.
So far, Bullets have scored four goals but conceded two goals in three matches, with veteran striker Chiukepo Msowoya, the team’s top-goal scorer with goals.
Nixon Nyasulu and Hassan Kajoke scored a goal each as Bullets beat Atlabara 2-0 on Saturday.
In another semifinal match, Express will face KMKM from Zanzibar, who finished as runners-up in Group B.
