Premier Bet Wizards are hunting for coaching panel members to replace McDonald Yobe and Fundi Akidu who resigned last week as assistant coach and team manager, respectively, the team’s Technical Director, Peter Mponda, has said.

The duo resigned from their posts citing personal issues. Sources attributed Yobe and Fundi’s resignations to unpaid dues.

“Yobe and Akidu are my long time friends and this does not mean that we are enemies. We have come a long way together to build this team,” Mponda said.

“However, their exit will not affect the team as we had four coaches including Simeon Kapuza. I could not force them to stay because their reasons for quitting are genuine.”

He added that he will recruit a qualified coach for the 2017 Super League season.

Wizards have no coach with the Caf B Licence which is a minimum requirement for all Super League head coaches.

Last season, Football Association of Malawi fined Wizards K50,000 for failing to comply with this Club Licensing System requirements.

“As we are preparing for the new season, we do not want to be penalised like last season for failing to fulfil the Club Licensing System requirements. We will, therefore, be looking for coaches with Caf B or A licenses to coach the team since we all had Caf C’s,” Mponda explained.

Wizards stumbled in the 2016 season as they narrowly escaped relegation and finished on position 13 with 30 points.

The team has produced players such as Silver Striker’s Thuso Paipi, Brighton Munthali, Levison Maganizo and Nyasa Big Bullets’ Mike Mkwate and Tilekeleni Joseph
