President Peter Mutharika Friday opens the 2017-2018 Budget meeting at 10am at the Parliament Building.
Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya made the announcement on Wednesday in a press release.
“The meeting which will be the 6th in the 46th Session of Parliament will run up to Friday, 30th June, 2017,” reads the statement in part.
“The Speaker is summoning all cabinet ministers, deputy ministers and members of Parliament to attend the meeting at the time indicated until adjournment sine die, and herein fail not,” reads the statement.
The office of the Speaker is further advising all invited guests to be seated by 8:30am in the Parliament Chamber, Lilongwe.
In an interview with The Daily Times Thursday, Leader of the House Kondwani Nankhumwa said, apart from discussing the budget, Parliament would also handle five bills that were discussed during the mid-term budget meeting.
The five bills are the Constitutional Amendment Bill, the Public Audit Bill, the Political Parties Bill, the Pesticides Bill and the Disposal of Assets and Public Procurement Bill.
Nankhumwa further said Parliament had not received new bills from government ministries.
Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development Goodall Gondwe is expected to deliver the 2017/2018 Budget Statement on Friday, May 19, 2017.
