Peter Mutharika pardons 197 prisoners

President Peter Mutharika has pardoned 197 prisoners, a statement from Ministry of Homeland Security announced Friday.
The statement says Mutharika pardoned the prisoners as part of Easter celebrations.
“The prisoners who have been pardoned are those who were charged with minor offences and have demonstrated good behavioral reform,” reads part of the statement which has been signed by Secretary for Homeland Security Samuel Madula.
The statement also says Mutharika has pardoned the 197 prisoners as a symbol of forgiveness during this year’s Easter celebrations.
