Peter Mutharika, Saulos Chilima to grace Unima fundraiser Friday
The University of Malawi says preparations for its golden jubilee celebrations are going on well as it holds a fundraising dinner and dance from 6:30 this evening at the Bingu International Conference Centre.
According to one of the organisers for the event, Nancy Chitera, both President Peter Mutharika and Vice President Saulos Chilima have already confirmed their participation at the event.
“We have targeted to raise about K50 million from this event. We are happy that several companies and alumni have expressed interest to support the course,” she said.
She however said they are still assessing how much they have raised so far.
This is among the fundraising events that the organising committee has arranged to help meet the K200 million needed for the main event scheduled for September 29.
Among other activities lined up before the September event include a research dissemination conference which seeks to showcase and celebrate Unima’s academic tradition.
The conference will bring together various local and international scholars.
Meanwhile, the Kamuzu College of Nursing will launch the Malawi Journal of Nursing and Midwifery on June 15.
