President Peter Mutharika Thursday sounded a warning to various contractors in the country against substandard work.
Mutharika made the remarks when he toured construction projects in Blantyre. Mutharika emphasised that any contractor who does substandard work will not be paid until their work is satisfactory.
However, during the tour, Mutharika expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the dual carriageway from Clock Tower Roundabout to Kameza Roundabout.
“ It’s very impressive, I am so glad to see the work that has been done, high quality work and this is what we expected of this particular contractor Mota-Engil. Like I have said before, contractors who are going to be doing substandard work now I am not going to pay them.
“They have to redo the work. Otherwise, I am very excited with the developments. However, all these good efforts are being delayed by the so-called demonstrations,” Mutharika said.
Some of the roads completed or under construction in Blantyre City are BCA Road, Ndirande-Makata Road, Clock Tower to Kameza Roundabout Dual Carriage Way,Chimwankhunda- via-Zion Road and Limbe-Manje Road.
Mutharika also inspected the newly built five-star hotel in Blantyre, Sogecoa.
The dual carriageway, which missed its deadline in March this year has almost 92 percent of the work completed.
