Peterkins Kaira lashes at Fam

Former Malawi national football team star, Peterkins Kaira, has hit back at Football Association of Malawi (Fam) over its warning to Chitipa United for engaging him as a caretaker coach.

Kaira earned the wrath of Fam after he was spotted on the rookies’ technical bench on Monday when they defeated Dwangwa United 2-1 at Mzuzu Stadium.

Kaira stepped in for Kondwani Mwalweni who was attending a funeral.

This forced Fam Transfer Matching System Manager, Casper Jangale, to caution Chitipa for violating Club Licensing System requirement of a minimum qualification of a Caf B Licence for a Super League head coach.

Kaira does not possess the B licence.

Chitipa General Secretary, Marshall Mwenechanya, said they engaged Kaira temporarily in Mwalweni’s absence.

But Jangale said the team should have sought Fam’s nod before engaging the Civil Sporting Club legend.

However, Kaira told a local radio station that Fam reacted that way because it involves him.

“The issue is not about Chitipa, it is about me. But that is foolish thinking. They should have asked first why I was on the bench. I was not there as a coach.

“I am the Vice-Chairperson for Chitipa United, and you expect me to sit down and fail to provide assistance to the team when its coach is away? How many teams are using unqualified coaches in the Super League? Fam is failing to act on them and find it easy to warn Chitipa United?” Kaira queried.

Perhaps Kaira was referring to Nyasa Big Bullets and Blantyre United who are using their assistant coaches, Elia Kananji and Safarao Pompi.

Following Monday’s win, Chitipa moved up to position 15 from bottom place having amassed eight points in 14 games. Chitipa also beat Azam Tigers 3-2.
