Philip Phambana wins Thyolo NBM golf tourney
Golfer Phillip Phambana emerged winner in the National Bank of Malawi (NBM) golf competition held at Thyolo Sports Club on Sunday.
Phambana beat a field of more than 50 golfers who took part in the competition.
In the ladies category, Connie Muguvu was the best of them all, hitting two birdies on hole number 4 and one birdie on hole number 9.
Carol Banda was on second position while Teri Amaru won the longest drive accolade.
Phambana thanked NBM for sponsoring the competition at Thyolo Sports Club.
“I am happy that I have won this competition sponsored by NBM which has been my bank for a long time. I really enjoyed my game on the golf course today and my playing partners were fantastic,” said Phambana, a retired Engineering Lecturer at the Polytechnic in Blantyre.
Golfers Chikago Phiri and James Katunga were on second and third positions respectively with Phiri winning the longest drive again Charles Merrick won the nearest to the pin accolade.
NBM Head of Strategy, Marketing and Corporate Affairs Wilkins Mijiga, thanked the golfers for the tough competition and said as a Bank of the Nation, NBM will continue supporting golf in the country.
“We know most of our customers play golf and most business deals are done on the golf course and we want to assure you of our support,” said Mijiga before presenting a cheque of K1.7 million to Thyolo Sports Club.
Thyolo Sports Club Golf Captain Plem Singh thanked NBM for the donation saying they do not take the gesture for granted.
