Phiri wants U-20 active
Malawi under-20 national football team Head Coach, Gerald Phiri Senior, has said there is need to keep his players active.
Phiri said the junior Flames, who crashed out of the Cosafa Junior Championship after a 1-1 draw against Uganda on Monday in Kitwe, Zambia, have gems that need more exposure.
“We will see what will happen when we go back home. But this is a very good team that needs to be maintained,” Phiri said in a post-match interview at Arthur Davies Stadium.
The junior Flames are expected back home today after exiting the championship with a win and two draws in Group A that saw leaders Uganda qualifying for the semi-final on goal aggregate.
Malawi and Uganda finished the group games with five points apiece.
South Africa are also through to the semi-final from Group B.
The junior Flames only participate in Cosafa events which take place in December and remain inactive for the rest of the year.
