The art of photography has improved tremendously in the country, professional photographer, Arjen van de Merwe, has said.
Merwe said he has been in the country for close to 11 years now and that he has seen photographers improve their art, especially with the coming of technology.
“I have been here for 11 years and I can say it here that photography has improved tremendously. As a professional photographer, I want to help in improving this art,” Merwe said.
He said he enjoys teaching and that he would want to contribute to the development of photography.
“I enjoy teaching and talk about photography and I enjoy when people improve skills,” he said.
Merwe said he has done some courses but then got requests from people that they would want more, hence approaching Jacaranda Cultural Centre in Blantyre.
“So I am glad we have a course and I am teaching every Saturday afternoon. A lot is left to the participants and I try to keep groups small to address everything,” he said.
Merwe said photography is a language and that it has its own grammar and vocabulary and that this can be learnt.
“The course is trying to look at, among other things, how one can make a beautiful photograph and what tools are available,” he said.
Merwe said the course is open to all those who would want to embrace photography.
