Piksy, Kell Kay talk modelling

Piksy and Kell Kay are not strange names when we talk about music in the country. They have entertained the masses with their music.

But do you know that apart from music, the two artists are also into modelling?

It is not rather a full-time career for them as far as modelling was concerned but they do it because it goes along with their musical talent.

Kell Kay, who last year launched his debut album titled Love After 24, said apart from music, he also takes time to do modelling and that this has offered him an opportunity to work with fashion outfits out there citing Lilongwe-based Ranas Boutique.

The artist alongside Piksy have been working with Ranas Boutique for some time.

“I am happy to be associated with the brand which is special, when I want to go and perform at any show, I have a chance of going to the shop to get clothes and that is why I always look great during my performances. Apart from the performances, dressing also matters,” Kell Kay said.

He spoke highly of Ranas Boutique saying they have classic clothes and other items hence working with them and marketing their things to the world.

“They have very nice classy things and that is why I decided to work with them and I am happy that they came out to utilise us. It is beneficial to both sides and as artists we reach out to huge audiences,” the artist said.

Piksy said he has a passion for modelling hence working with Ranas Boutique adding that this was more like a hobby for him.

“I love modelling that is why I always try to keep my body in shape by going to the gym, jogging and even checking my diet,” he said.

The musician, who last year went a mile launching his Moyo water, said doing modelling has also given him an opportunity to get free photo-shoots.

“It is something which is beneficial because we also have a chance of getting stuff from the shop and we take time to showcase clothes that are sold at the shop,” he said.

Piksy recently dropped a new single titled ‘Chonchobe’, which he recently launched during a Valentine’s Day concert at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.

According to its website, Ranas Boutique is a fashion store for all the trending clothes and that through the website they have been able to sell over 200 plus pieces.

The boutique is driven by two sisters – Dubbie and Jubbie Memory Dukes, who are based in United States of America (USA) where they moved seven years ago having stayed in United Kingdom for 10 years.

“Fashion is all about modelling and it also works with music and so this is why we thought of working with Piksy and Kell Kay, who continue to entertain people with their music and we love their music as well,” Jubbie said.

She said as sisters they were classic in whatever they do hence engaging the two artists to reach out to people with their collections.

“Again, as artists they need to dress well and so through this partnership we thought of dressing them for shows sometimes but mostly they model for the clothes we sell,” Jubbie said.

Dubbie said they opened their Rana Boutique in Lilongwe in 2014 and that at first they had shops at Gateway Mall and City Mall.

“But now we only have one shop at City Mall because we wanted to make sure that we manage it well and so, now things are better. We are happy to be part of fashion and provide clothes for different events and the idea is for people to stand out,” Dubbie, a mother of three, said.

She said as sisters they have achieved so much as a team and that the partnership has worked for them.

“We are two sisters, who are so passionate about things and thought working as a team can achieve more. So, with fashion changing, we always top up our game and make sure that we should have standout things,” Dubbie said.

Having started in United Kingdom, Dubbie, said they were stocking British and American fashion but now they are more into American fashion since they were based in USA.

“Piksy and Kell Kay are doing great music and we play their music here hence making a choice to work with. With their music, we thought they could help us fashion wise and also keep us on top. The two artists are also good at fashion hence choosing them especially in that they are young and talented,” she said.

Dubbie also said working with the two artists was not a one- off thing as they having been doing this for years.

Apart from working with Piksy and Kell Kay in modelling for their items, Dubbie, said they have also been working with Dreams Photography for so many years.

“With Dreams Photography, they are in this because of the photo-shoots. So, we count on them for all the photo-shoots and they are even able to understand our concepts,” she said.

Dubbie described the style of their fashion as great and unbeatable.

“We are happy in that while driving fashion forward through our shop, we are also pushing the two artists to do well in their music and even be presentable during their shows,” she said.

The two sisters, were also working with a model by the name of Romana.

“We had to engage a model as well to work with the two artists. Romana understands our fashion and that is why it has been easy working with Piksy and Kell Kay. Everyone can model but it takes special talent. As sisters, we also just want to call upon women to utilise their talents and strive to do something and not just sit idle at home,” Dubbie said.
