PIL donates to Bwaila Hospital

PIL has donated medical equipment worth K5 million to Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe as a corporate social responsibility drive.

Making the donation, PIL General Manager, Enwell Kadango, described the gesture as a demonstration of his company’s commitment to support the promotion of health service delivery in the country.

“These medical items will put a smile on our health workers’ faces. Our company understands that in Malawi, it is a common sight to see hospitals operating on a thin budget yet they still remain committed to helping patients,” he said.

Kadango then asked other companies to help the country in implementing the Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) through planned corporate social responsibility initiatives.

“PIL has committed itself to working together with government in its effort to improve health service delivery with hope that our intervention will alleviate the problem of limited resources,” he said.

Lilongwe District Health Officer, Alinafe Mbewe, said the gesture will go a long way in simplifying service delivery at the facility.

“The donation that we have received today will help us a lot since we lack basic equipment since we help a lot of people. The equipment that we have, cannot accommodate everyone,” she said.

Some of the medical items included an oxygen concentrator, wheel chairs, resuscitating airbags and foetal scopes.
