Pilirani Zonda injured
Nyasa Big Bullets defender, Pilirani Zonda, has—due to a lower back injury—been ruled out of Malawi national football team’s away game against Guinea in the Orange Africa of Nations qualifiers on the weekend of March 23.
Zonda got injured during the national team’s training session on Sunday. He will be out of action for two weeks, according to the Flames team doctor, Levison Mwale.
Mwale said the Bullets defender was released from camp to undergo treatment at Kachere Rehabilitation Centre in Blantyre.
“As it is case now, Zonda can’t be in the camp because he will not make it for the trip to Guinea. He needs to fully recover and I am sure with the treatment he is receiving now, it won’t take long,” Mwale said.
Zonda’s injury is also a big blow to his club as he will miss this weekend’s action in the Nyasa Challenge Cup against the Zimbabwe’s Premier League side, Dynamos FC.
Meanwhile, on-and-off Flames defender, Harry Nyirenda, has admitted that it will not be easy to reclaim his position in the current squad.
Nyirenda was the first foreign-based player to join the Flames camp on Thursday.
The Black Leopards defender said he is happy to return to the national team after almost a year without getting a call-up under coach Ernest Mtawali.
“The boys are displaying good football and I have seen that it is not automatic that I will secure my position. I have observed that joining the camp so early will help me to do better,”Nyirenda said
