Big Bullets FC and Flames international right-back Pilirani Zonda, is set to return to action this weekend.

Zonda is available for selection when the reigning champions host Blue Eagles at the Kamuzu Stadium in a TNM Super League match this Sunday.

Zonda has not featured for the People’s Team in their league assignments in recent weeks after he stretched his lower back whilst on national duty during the friendly against Zambia in Lusaka.

The former Epac FC and Mighty Wanderers player said he was feeling better now and he wants to keep himself in shape ahead of the Blantyre derby against cross-town rivals Mighty Wanderers in a fortnight.

“The pain I was feeling in the early days of the injury is relieved since I started receiving treatment at Kachere Rehabilitation Centre where I was referred from Beit Cure International Hospital,” he said.

The player said he has responded positively to the treatment and the doctor who has been monitoring him, gave him the assurance that he can manage 25 or 30 minutes of a match before he fully recovers in a week.

“I am optimistic that I should be fit by the time we face Wanderers because I am looking forward to giving my all, but I would love to test myself this Sunday when we play Blue Eagles,” he said.

The injury was a blow to the People’s Team vice captain, who was eventually ruled out of the Cosafa Cup tournament in South Africa recently.

“I was really depressed at missing out the Cosafa Cup because the injury came at a time competition for a place in the national squad was stiff, but I have not given up,” he said.

In the absence of Zonda, Bullets struggled in defence in recent games against Red Lions, Mzuzu University, Moyale Barracks and Azam Tigers in which they conceded a single goal in each of the games.

The People’s Team also missed Bashir Maunde, Fischer Kondowe and Yamikani Fodya due to national team assignments.

Sunday’s match promises to be a thriller because both Big Bullets FC and Blue Eagles are yet to taste defeat in the new season.
